Anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental illnesses among children and young people in Australia, with a prevalence of around 7%.

What are the best ways to help children who experience this unpleasant emotion?

“I think for kids that do experience anxiety it is hard to understand what is this weird thing that’s happening with my body,” says Professor Jennie Hudson from the Centre of Emotional Health from the Department of Psychology at Macquarie University.

“They don’t realise that it is actually a normal emotion.”
