New signage running out the door

You cannot make a bulk-billing sign big enough to satisfy us.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is developing additional signage for practices participating in its bulk-billing practice incentive program, it has emerged.

It’s estimated that up to 9000 practices across Australia will participate in the scheme and practices have been given five business days to display their signage once it’s received.

A DoHDA spokesperson told The Medical Republic:

“The government signage will be made out of neon tubes and will have to be prominently displayed at the front of the practice.

“The sign will be so big and so bright that it can be seen from multiple angles up to 10km away or by anyone looking vaguely in the right direction.”

“We’ve had to seek independent legal advice about what the sign actually says,” continued the DoHDA spokesperson.

“We thought about ‘Government Bitches Work Here’, or, ‘Top Whack Quack Shack Now Bulk Billing’, but we decided on the conservative yet equally self-promotional message: ‘The government is so cool’, followed by a cute smiley face.”

The new signs will be available for display from 1 November.
