Free CPD seminar on how to prevent and counteract media scares on contraception
Contraceptive ‘scares’ are not new but in the age of the 24-hour-news cycle and extensive social media the frequency and reach of such scares appears to be increasing.
When the ABC’s 7.30 Report program recently ran a story about some the side effects from long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), a significant number of women immediately cancelled their appointments to have devices implanted in the following days.
On Saturday May 19, at 5.45pm, Dr Terri Foran will be discussing live via a HealthEd webcast a number of these recent scares from the perspective of both motivation and impact and will attempt to take an evidence-based approach to the reporting of adverse events attributed to contraceptive use.
Dr Foran is a Sexual Health Physician and has a special interest in contraception, menopause issues and the management of sexually transmitted infections. She was previously the Medical Director of Family Planning NSW and is now in clinical practice in Darlinghurst. She is also engaged in both clinical and research work at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.
