We can do a lot as GPs to help families care for people with disabilities, says Dr Jane Tracy, the director of the Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria at Monash University.

“We can help people link to resources and services that are available to support them,” she says.

“We can provide the documentation, and I know that can be a bit of a pain at times, but it’s so important to enable people to get the services and resources that they are entitled to. The big one at the moment is, of course, the NDIS.”
