Domestic violence is the leading cause of death for young women in Australia.
On average, one woman dies per week from family violence around Australia.
Family violence is the leading cause of death, illness and injury for women aged between 20 and 45.
“It is a significant issue,” says Scott Mills, the manager of Family Violence Practice Development at Relationships Australia Victoria.
“The cost is in the billions per year.”
There has been a 105% increase of reporting of domestic violence to police over the last 7 or 8 years, he says.
