Drinking deep from the bottomless well of medical malarkey.
One of the occupational hazards of a career in journalism is having to deal on a daily basis with a tsunami of emails from folks who mistakenly think our publications might be interested in writing about their products or people.
In the normal course of events these entreaties are quickly dispatched to the electronic wastepaper bin with extreme prejudice, but just occasionally one of these efforts strikes us as being so barkingly moonbat bonkers that we can’t resist sharing the lunacy a little more widely.
So without further ado, let us introduce you to Mr Tim Spriggs, who tells us he is a “certified energy healer” and founder of Revive Wellness Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Tim’s people are keen for us to talk to him so that he can explain how he can heal the sick by “untrapping their emotions and energy imbalances” which, conveniently, “can manifest differently from person to person”.
Perhaps surprisingly for anyone who has spent decades building their knowledge of evidence-based medicine, we learn that the real cause of most human illnesses are “trapped emotions”.
“We believe that the creation of emotions comes from our organs. When emotions become trapped, they can lodge themselves anywhere in the body, with no discernible pattern,” Spriggs tell us in his media release.
“These trapped emotions may disrupt normal body function or distort perception, creating energetic blocks that vary widely from person to person.”
Which brings us to what Spriggs calls the “foundational tenet” and “guiding principle” of the energy healing caper, which is, and we are NOT making this up: “Anything can cause anything”.
For example, we are told, two individuals may share the same trapped emotion, such as grief or anxiety, but the way that emotion manifests in the body and influences well-being can be entirely different.
“That’s why, in energy healing, practitioners are trained to avoid personal bias and instead follow the guidance of the client’s subconscious mind, which reveals the root imbalances through muscle testing and other techniques.”
Bet they didn’t teach you THAT in med school.
Not that Spriggs and his cronies consider themselves to be doctors. That would be too easy.
“It is essential to clarify that practitioners of these healing systems are not medical doctors and do not offer diagnoses,” Spriggs says.
“In fact, the philosophy behind this approach recognises that traditional diagnoses may not fully capture the complexity of underlying energy imbalances.”
We could go on because there’s much much more of this malarkey, but we expect you’re getting the drift.
And in case you’re wondering, a quick trip to the Revive website reveals that an introductory 55-minute session with an energy healer will set you back $US100 ($A155), although you could opt for an email or text-based 35-minute session for just $US55.
To our way of thinking that does seem a little steep to find out that “anything can cause anything”, but then again we are old and cynical and probably chock-a-block full of trapped emotions.
