But that’s not the end of it. There’s another vote in a month. Chaos.
Dr Sharmila Chandran has comfortably survived a resolution to remove her as a director and president-elect of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at an emergency general meeting held this morning.
According to the RACP’s official notice, 8291 members participated in the vote, with just 35.04% (2806) supporting the proposal to remove Dr Chandran. A majority of 75% was needed to pass the resolution.
Dr Chandran ran into problems after opposing the current administration on matters of board composition policy, which was followed by allegations of adversarial behaviour from the president-elect.

Dr Chandran has subsequently taken the college’s board to the Fair Work Commission over a bullying claim.
Allegations of bullying originally emerged following Dr Chandran’s opposition to three new constitutional changes which would give the board more power.
Current RACP president Professor Jennifer Martin has argued that these changes are essential for effective governance and for better performance to members.
Immediately following the resolution against Dr Chandran, another resolution was put to the vote, aiming to remove the last remaining director on the board, Dr Nick Buckmaster.
That too was defeated – of 6698 voters, just 26.44% (1596) voted in favour of the resolution.
Another emergency general meeting will be held on Wednesday 26 November at 12pm AEDT. Again, the resolution reads:
“The College has received a request from a group of more than 100 current members to convene an EGM to consider one proposed resolution to remove Dr Chandran as President-elect and as a Board Director of the College.”
Voting is open until 12pm AEDT on Monday 24 November.
