A Mount Isa green tree frog has made a full recovery after being flown to the Cairns Frog Hospital following an incident with a lawn mover

The little-known frog hospital, run by president Deborah Pergolotti, took the green tree frog in earlier this week.
Ms Pergolotti said a Mount Isa woman contacted the frog hospital after running over the frog with her lawn mover.

The frog, which suffered a large gash on its back, was then taken to Cairns after an airline donated a flight.

“The only thing that we could do to help this lady in Mount Isa was to get the frog to Cairns,” Ms Pergolotti told ABC News.

“That started a big bureaucratic process of finding out which airlines now had the contract to service Mount Isa and Cairns, contacting them, and then they had to contact their animal handling people.”

Ms Pergolotti said the frog was already unwell, as it was out during the daylight hours when it got run over.

The frog’s condition had deteriorated by the time it had arrived at the hospital, with the wound becoming infected.

“He had a lot of different, alternate treatments to make sure that we would minimise any possible bacterial involvement, and get rid of the bacteria that was already there,” said Ms Pergolotti.

“It was a lot of intensive attention, special baths every day.”

The frog is expected to make a full recovery, with the wound now fully healed.
