Under the stewardship of a new CEO, the peak body will no longer focus solely on general practice supervisors.
General Practice Supervision Australia has announced plans to expand beyond general practice to meet “emerging needs across the wider healthcare environment”.
GPSA chair Dr Srishti Dutta told The Medical Republic that the intention behind the changes was to ensure that the peak could support a range of supervisors outside of the traditional AGPT focus.
“In terms of what it might look like, we already have resources that have been developed for medical student supervision, for example, and in addition we have developed additional informational webinars for our members which being taken up quite well,” she said.
“There’s more in that pipeline as well, and it may evolve to include other aspects that … evolve from the next few months of what governance and elections.”
Support for current members will remain the same, she said, and the resources on offer will expand rather than shrink.
“We have to be responsive to what comes to us from members [in terms of] needs which are either not conventionally what has been catered to, but also that may be evolving because the population of GPs and supervisors changes,” Dr Dutta said.
“We have to maintain that agility.”
