Currently access for clinicians to shared health records is ‘fragmented and inconsistent’. Sounds familiar.
Health New Zealand has awarded local IT service and consultancy Middleware New Zealand the contract to enable interoperability of the country’s shared digital health record system, connecting clinicians to patient information nationwide.
Middleware will provide FHIR expertise, architecture, development, testing and project management capability for the NZ$4 million project, according to Healthcare IT News.
HNZ’s acting CITO Darren Douglass said the organisation was now in talks with healthcare organisations to integrate with the SDHR and there would be more procurements to support that move.
Currently, access to shared health records in New Zealand is fragmented and inconsistent, and providers participating can opt out at any time.
According to Mr Douglass’ statement to HITNews, one of the first uses of the SDHR will be a 24/7 GP telehealth service, which has not yet been tendered out. The service is “still on track” to be launched later this year.
