Owning a clinic doesn’t add up for most GPs

Being a practice owner isn't easy, and it certainly isn't cheap.


Over the last two decades, many small-scaled general practices have merged into larger entities, prompted by increases in practice costs and other incentives.

And last year, only one quarter of all practices were GP-owned, down 10% from 2008.
This decline in GP ownership has led to an increase in corporates taking over the running of clinics.

This episode we talk to Dr Caroline de Moel-Mandel, a former Dutch GP and researcher at La Trobe University, about the decline in GP practice ownership and how it could have significant downsides for patients.
