Stanthorpe doc to lead ACRRM

Queensland rural generalist Dr Dan Halliday has been elected as the next president of the rural college.

The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine has picked yet another Queenslander to take the presidential reins.

Dr Dan Halliday, a rural generalist with special interest in obstetrics, will take over from Townsville-based president Dr Sarah Chalmers in October.

Dr Halliday, who works out of the Stanthorpe Hospital in Queensland’s Southern Downs, is no stranger to being top banana – he’s previously served as president of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland and was a past director of Queensland Rural Medical Education.

With the transition to college-led training coming in the new year, Dr Halliday said 2022 was a busy but exciting time to join ACRRM leadership.

“I believe ACRRM offers a clear way forward to provide exciting training and supervision opportunities to clinicians, enabling delivery of excellent health care for our rural, regional and remote communities,” he said.

“I look forward to being a part of this change. I’m committed to advocating for ACRRM, and steering it in the direction of success.”
